Sunnahae Trail, Alaska, United States

4.5 (7 reviews) Spent 2-3 hours Ranking #4 in Prince of Wales Island Hiking Trails

The first part is a workout!

As you drive out of Craig, keep an eye out for the unmarked parking lot on Highway 924. The start of the trail is new, wide and well maintained with strenuous switchbacks. Then there’s a set of new stairs to really get your heart pumping! The quick ascent allows for peek-a-boo views of Craig and the surrounding area. This trail is under construction and signs were posted not to proceed past a certain point due to unsafe bridges. We did venture past these signs, not far though as the path became unclear and it was raining and we thought it best to turn back. We did talk to a local on the way down and she said it’s fine going right to the top if you’re careful. The views would be spectacular on a clear day.

    To the top and back...
A great hike with a great view on a clear day. Took about 4 hours to go up and back if you move at a good pace. There is a nicely maintained .6 mile trip up to the road with some good views, then another new trail that would put you 2 miles up. The rest of the trail is visible and well trodden but not maintained.

    Great trail
This is a challenging, steep, and well-maintained trail. You climb up above Craig, AK and have great views of the surrounding area. There are alot of stairs installed to help ascend what would be a very steep incline. We did not reach the summit (due to time) but suggest you plan ahead to do that.
