Well preserved and fun
Just a fun area to walk around with lots of local art for photo ops. Skagway has done a good job of keeping the feel of an old mining and fishing town. Yes, lots of tourist shops - but enjoyable window shopping.

Nice frontier town
Although the town is a tourist town full of shops, you don't have to go shopping to enjoy it. The town is full of late 1890 buildings which are fun to just look at from the street. You can print off a self guided walking map at skagway.com. We just did the in-town tour as we were going to ride the White Pass - Yukon RR train. On our ride back down the mountain we saw a lot of people who did the extended walk out to Reid Falls and the Gold Rush Cemetery and the I would have liked to walk out there if we had had time.

Walk in time
State & Broadway have lots of fun stores. Some related to the Klondike and some that are very tourist. There is also some great bars, cafes, museums and a brewery. Way to many jewelry stores. It really takes you back in time walking the old streets.
