Alaskan Native Art & Culture
This small museum contains the collections assembled during the late 1800's of the various Alaskan tribes. The glass cased displays contain the larger items from native life. The real treasure can be found in the drawers below the display cases. Here you see, up close, the items from daily life. The staff is extremely knowledgeable. The most interesting fact is the silverware was created by reshaping Russian coins. There is no local silver in Alaska. The Russians initially couldn't figure out how their currency was disappearing.

Fascinating
The material in this museum is fascinating for anyone, like me, who's interested in native people and their culture. My only complaint was that the group I was with in Sitka didn't allow more time to explore the museum. I marked that I was there solo because notifying fit. I was traveling with my father, who's in his 80's, and a small tour group.

Good museum for a reasonable fee!
Very nice, small museum with an extensive collection of native and local history artifacts. I recommend this place if you are visiting on a cruise. Very reasonable admission charge. Now a state operated museum. Well done! Requires an hour or two, at most.
