Beautiful hike, excellent viewpoint
We arrived in Kodiak by cruiseship. The ship docked directly below Pillar Mountain. The summit with its wind turbines looks deceptively low, but I knew that it stands at over 1200 ft.The hike up there offers the best viewpoint of Kodiak town and surroundings. The trail that I found starts after the Pillar Mountain Road makes a big right turn (a kind of parking space lies just below) and beyond a power utility line. It ends on top of the ridge from where an unpaved road leads to the highest point. I came up by a different trail that appears much less used.

Best 360 degree views!
We brought our Trail Hawk Jeep on the ferry and found a dirt road to put it through it's paces. Once on top, the views all the way around were so beautiful. There were also hikers there.

Beautiful views!
We booked a tour so we could see all that Kodiak Island Alaska has to offer. We were taken on this trail and were completely in awe of the beautiful sites you could see along this trail/road and the places it leads to. Worth doing.
