Great event with beautiful dogs

We were at the celebratory start in Anchorage (March 4, 2023). Amazing atmosphere, beautiful and eager dogs, great teams and many spectators along 4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage. It was cold but sunny. As the teams started out, chears and whistling and clapping started all the way out of downtown. We also tried raindeer sausage at one of the vendors. GREAT EVENT not to be missed! The restart was next day out of Willow village.

    This is Alaska!
We saw the start of the Iditarod from downtown 4th Avenue. People with fur parkas and fur hats were out in force. You won't see this anywhere else in the world and it is a truly Alaskan fashion statement. There were over 50 teams of yelping dogs that knew what being in harness and hooked up to a sled meant: a good run in the open. Aliy Zirkle was there with her team; posing for selfies and giving out posters. A great festive event. Maybe one day PETA will focus on the Kentucky Derby and leave us alone!

    A Fun Event
We really enjoyed the experience of the Ceremonial Start of the Iditarod on Saturday. The energy and excitement was great in the downtown area of Anchorage and all along the 10-mile trail. There are a lot of vendors and various activities during the week leading up to the start. The mushers meet and greet was a great time to talk to the mushers and get signatures. We then drove to Willow, AK to see the Offical Restart of the race. It happened to be the largest snowstorm of the year and it gave the experience an added element that was great for the experience.
