Step back in time in time

Stepping back in time, this cemetery is not maintained and therefore it is more interesting. You can read most of the head stones but there is also a board with some of the history of some of the graves in the parking area. We were surprised by the number of woman and children thinking it would be mostly all men. Ages were varied but som very young, if you visit take time to read the board I read it after our visit to the cemetery but it may have been more useful reading it first. It is also the gateway to a wonderful waterfall. Well worth a visit.

    Neat to See
Neat to see, just remember you're in a cemetery and need to show proper respects to those laid there. Saw a bus load of people walk in and act like it was the line for Disney's Haunted House- very little respect and care where they were treading. Interesting to see the shortened life spans of many of these people. Kudos to them and all the like minded trail blazers who ventured out to the last frontier to build a life for them and their families. They don't make them like that anymore.

A longish walk for little benefit
After the great experience of the White Pass and Yukon rail trip, we were enthusiastic about visiting the Gold Rush Cemetery. A guide in the WP&YR office assured us that the walk to the cemetery was just 1 1/2 miles and we could get the shuttle-bus either out or back. In fact it was over 2 miles each way, and there was no bus ... the service was simply not responding to its number on the web site. At the cemetery, the site was much smaller than we had anticipated, and virtually no information was available.
