Interesting Place to See

The Forest Service offers nice guided tours of this natural wonder on the Island. A very interesting and beautiful side trip to add to your visit to POW. I would give it 5 stars but the tour is not offered everyday of the summer. Make sure you contact the Forest Service to reserve a spot when you get to the Island as there are limits to the days and numbers of people that can go on the tour.

Steps to cave-not so bad.
Climbed 370 steps with the ranger guide who gave us plenty of time for rests and spoke of the surrounding environment as we ascended and later descended. Hard hats and lights were supplied. Not as dramatic as the caves in Tasmania as it isn't so old and we could only go in a few hundred metres - hiking boots or the like are a must and you may get a little dirty as you manoeuvre around rocks etc. Quite cool so make sure you bring layers. Took this as part of an excursion from our tour boat.

Tour guide needed for the inexperienced
The location is quite remote and accessible off a gravel road. There are around 370 stairs to climb to get to the entrance of the cave. Upon arriving at the opening, we decided not to go inside. It looked a little scary. Maybe the exploration of this cave should be done with a guide. There was not a lot of information available as to when it is staffed. There is an interpretive center at the start of the trail but no one was around. We stopped in because we were passing by but not sure we would make a special trip. It’s a bit out of the way.
