Dennis - the KING of SKAGWAY
Dennis Corrington has created one of the most incredible collections of ivory we have ever seen (and we have seen a great deal in various maritime museums throughout the world). The ivory on display here is astonishing for a "small" museum. The Baleen baskets are gorgeous. This museum is located at Broadway and 5th Street - easily found as Broadway is the "main" thoroughfare. I had read that if you wanted to purchase baskets, this was the place and I am grateful to the person who wrote that bit of advice! We purchased a gorgeous basket with a carved ivory Eagle on the top of the lid, beaver fur around the lid and trade beads down the side. I could have easily purchased a dozen baskets, as each one was beautiful (and the prices were reasonable - there is something for everyone here). Don't settle for some of the port shops when you can find something unique in this wonderful place. I should say that "Don" was especially helpful and friendly. He showed us some of the collection before we entered the museum itself. Skagway is my favorite port town on the Inside passage and the experience we had at the Corrington made it even better.

Good Free Museum and Quality Store
This is a good place. The museum is small but really nice; take the time to visit and then browse the store, which has beautiful items. We visited several years ago and fell in love with the Rhythm clocks but didn't buy one. This time we made a beeline for Corrington's and purchased one. They are very easy to deal with - no sales pressure at all, and good knowledge of the merchandise. .
