Nice Alaska history and culture overview
Our family of 5 (2 parents, 3 teen boys) found a nice overview of the Alaskan people, culture, and history on the 2nd floor (a permanent exhibit). Our objective was to learn about Alaska on the first day of our trip to the state. In about 90 minutes, we learned about Native Alaskan people and culture; geography and natural influences; European, Russian, and American involvement; gold and oil impacts; and Alaska Native Corporations. (No tour was offered during COVID environment, including mid-July 2021, but our self-guided view was still good.) The rest of the museum has impressive exhibits. I'd particularly recommend the Art of the North Galleries (a beautiful space with a great deal of modern Alaskan art).

    Expansive and educational.
A great way to spend a couple of hours. The second floor was most interesting to us as it related specifically to Alaska. The other levels were good, but more of an art gallery exhibit from around the world. The Discovery area would be really fun and educational for kids (and curious grownups). Lockers available for 25 cents…greatly appreciated for storing backpacks and jackets while enjoying the museum. The building itself was quite exceptional.
