    Everything historical and more
A great museum that takes you through the history of AK including natives and the claim by Russia through the sale to the US. The role of AK in history is explained from early people crossing the Straight and settling here, explorers visiting, early tribes, the fishing industry, the gold rush, and the role AK played in WWII. I felt the layout was challenging to follow, but overall, it was a great museum with lots of information (maybe too much to digest all in one trip). I think we spent just over 2 hours there and I could have easily spent 4+ hours there taking it all in. $15 admission fee was well worth the education of AK.

    Great Museum in Juneau, AK
Loved Alaska State Museum. Nice, modern building within walking distance of downtown area. A little confusing when you first walk into the front doors, as you are met by a security guard that did not respond to greeting or question. The actual entrance to the museum part is to your left. Upon entering into the reception area of the museum I was met by 3 extremely friendly and helpful employees. The museum has a ton of areas for everyone's interests. I loved the World War II history part and the special exhibit called Mug Up. I had been to the Bristol Bay Historical Museum in Naknek, Alaska and they told me about this display and documentary. I found the cannery history enlightening and enjoyed seeing items, stories about cannery life. The documentary in the small theater was so well done and gives you an insight on operations, cannery life and community life in cannery towns.
