Love it, love it, love it!!!!!

The Alaska Railroad is an amazing experience! I travelled from Seward to Anchorage. The railroad travels through beautifull scenery with a lot of things to do. In addition, and the staff narrate the trip and point out various sites along the way, therefore the train uses low speed. The seats are very comfortable. You don;nt need to pay extra ticket to ride the expensive train with the glass dome. In every train there is a 1st floor, but there is an "unofficial agreemen" that every passenger should spend abt 15-30 min in order to be able to enjoy the view all the passenger. A very special moment: when the alaska express approached cars, people etc, they all smilled and salute us! The best way to travel among the cities! Bring something to eat and enjoy it!! Especially during midnight sun!!!

The best way to see Alaska
I took six journeys on the Alaska Railroad as part of my trip and enjoyed them all. Gold Star class was nice as we had wrap-around windows and meals included. The commentary was very useful. I recommend buying a railway guide for $5 in the shop in Anchorage, which will add to your enjoyment.

    Great introduction to Alaska
We boarded the train first thing in the morning after our late flight into Anchorage the night before so this was a great introduction into Alaska. It was a relaxing ride across the beautiful countryside to Seward. We did not pay for the more expensive Gold Star program. We enjoyed something for breakfast from the cafe car (although the better choice would have been the coffee stand in the depot of a banana and large muffin). It was cloudy and misted rain most of the ride. The engineer did see some wildlife but by the time our car got there, they had disappeared. On our return ride a few days later, the sky was blue and made for a much more scenic ride and we enjoyed it much more. We did get to go up in the upper viewing gallery when we wanted as the train wasn't at capacity. It was a 4 hour train ride versus a 2 hr drive but would definitely recommend riding the train while you are here!
