Village Point Park Preserve, Alabama, United States

4.5 (41 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Daphne Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks

Free. Awesome. Interesting. Wildlife. Swamp. Waterfront Views.

Free & Awesome. I came back a second time a few days later. I was with my dog, saw other dog walkers, families with kids, couples, senior citizens. I saw turtles, huge swamp grasshoppers, alligators, birds. Jackson's Oak, a landmark where President Andrew Jackson gave a speech from it's branches to American soldiers. There is also the D'Olive Family Cemetery within this park as well. You can begin your hike at Village Park Point Preserve & end at Bay Fromt Park which is directly next door.

    Hike back in time
Village Point was a nice little stop. You can walk down a gravel road straight to the "attractions" or you can walk the nature trails. There is a giant oak tree where Andrew Jackson addressed his troops during the War of 1812. There is also a small cemetery dated 1804 (I believe). If you keep walking down the gravel road you will come to a beach with two piers. I didn't see any gators or snakes, but there are a lot of spiders. These are Golden Orb Weavers and they are harmless. Most of the time their webs are over your head, but occasionally you will have to duck under the web. Don't be alarmed by their size, they will not bother you. The mosquitoes are massive so definitely bring bug spray.

    What a gem!
So amazed that you can stand on the Bay and see trees not condo's like most of the Gulf Coast. The Gulf Shores of Alabama continue to surprise and entertain me. This little gem has nice walking, friendly people and ample parking. Felt very comfortable being solo! You can enjoy fishing from the two piers, or rocking on the porch swing seats as you savor the sights of the bay. Alligators are on the property but I didn't see any. There is also a little stretch of beach that people were enjoying. Playing fetch with their dogs. The Oak is impressive and there are picnic tables here as well as scattered throughout the park. There is also a Indian Burial Ground but my sandled feet were not appropriate dress for the section I think its located. Next time I will print off the map from the website so that I can understand the trail system better. The only address I could find was 2605 US Highway 98 and this gets you in the neighborhood but too far south. My GPS indicates a better address would be 27638 Main Street Daphne this would be to the 2nd exit. The entrance would be further north. There are two entrances both off of Main street which is Scenic 98. Old 98 Intersects with 98 just North of the park entrances. According to a map I found it looks like you should be able to enter either from Bel Air or just a bit more down Old 98 to an additional parking lot. The Bel Air entrance is closer to the Bay, Pier, and boardwalk where the alligators are supposed to be. Tthe 2nd entrance is closer to the Old Oak and a good walk to the bay and fishing.
