An unexpected surprise - fun hikes and fantastic views

We detoured through this area to stretch our legs during a cross-country road trip and I'm very glad we did. We haven't spent much time in Alabama and didn't have high expectations for great hiking and scenic views, but thankfully we were wrong. We initially made a brief stop at Cheaha State Park, then spent time exploring several back roads and trails south of Cheaha. The entire scenic drive was incredibly beautiful, even in early December. I would also recommend the High Falls trail, which was a short, easy trail in a quiet and secluded forest with several beautiful waterfalls. This great area was initially an afterthought on our trip, but now I'm genuinely looking forward to returning next time we're in this part of the country.

    Surprised!!!!!
I stopped here on my way back to Birmingham for some solitude and quiet time.... boy, did I get it!! This place is beautiful and such a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of free way driving. If I lived here I would visit this place often.... good meditating time!!!!

    wanted to hike chinnabee
chinnabee silent trail was closed when we arrived to hike it. we drove on around and found cave creek trail. signage is absolutely horrid in AL..the forest is beautiful but being informed of where you are is imperative when traversing/hiking an area, especially when there is sporadic/zero signal for electronic devices. being advised that the chinnabee trail was closed would have been appreciated, prior to arriving there. absolutely no indication of this on any site and good luck finding someone nearby who works for the parks and has information.
