Great little community tour

We were looking for something to do and decided to check out shorter mansion. It was closed to visitors this day because they were setting up for a bridal shower. However the attendant let us take a quick peak around and then gave us a commentary out on the porch. It was a lovely day and she told us about some history with the home. I would recommend checking this place out if your in the neighborhood.

    Must See
We stopped because of the movie Sweet Home Alabama and so glad we did. What history! The home is well preserved and the street the home is on is so pretty with lots of beautiful homes to view from the street. Met someone on the street who had a home there and was so nice. The Shorter Mansion has a lot of history and antiques! It is an honor system pay, would have loved a tour guide because there is just so much history. This can be as quick as a 30 minute time to tour or as long as you want to read everything they have there! Go upstairs too!

    Unexpected Gem
My friend and I drove to Eufaula for a Saturday 'girls day out' and we really like History so after carefully researching on the internet great historic cities we decided to travel to Eufala for the day. We were pleasantly surprised at the magnificence of this lovely old home. Our tour guide happened to be the manager of the establishment and we were honored with an even more in-depth informative tour of this historic home and the background of all its opulant furnishings. We spent several hours enjoying this beautiful place and discovering its many rooms complete with a state museum upstairs with lots of interesting displays. The museum upstairs has THE finest collection of authentic antebellum dresses and textile samples from the period of anywhere in the entire state. You can drive up and it only cost $5 per adult to tour this home between the hours of 10 -5pm. We had a fabulous time and thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the beautiful antiques and furnishings. I wish I had known years ago that the place was so warm and inviting or I would have come many more times earlier and since :) We can't wait to do the Pilgrimage of homes later in the year during the Christmas Holidays when many other homes are open to tour!
