Tour the Literary Capital of Alabama
Visiting the Courthouse and Museum is like a walk back in time. The downtown square bustles with traffic. I didn't expect a Tuesday afternoon to be so busy. It's only $5.00 to tour the 1903 courthouse and museum exhibits. It is well worth the fee. If you only have a passing knowledge of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, you will learn all you need to know. If you are a devotee of the book, then this is home ground. Standing in the courtroom is being transported in the pages of the book. Take a trip around the downtown streets on the sculpture trail and discover 10 Alabama writers you might not know much about.

Read the book first
We decided to visit this museum because we have read books from both of the well known authors associated with this city and we have seen the movies associated with some of their books. It was interesting to see some of the antiques in the law office especially the old radio, typewriter and dictaphone. The high light is the courtroom and you can go to the balcony for a special view. The city is not close to an interstate but it is worth the detour for a visit.
