Old Cahawba Archaeological Park, Alabama, United States
4.5 (66 reviews) Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #1 in Orrville Historic Sites
We loved this place.
Cahawba was once Alabama's state capital (1819-1826) and a thriving antebellum river town. It became a ghost town shortly after the Civil War. Today it is an important archaeological site and a place of picturesque ruins. Nature has reclaimed much of Old Cahawba, but historians and archaeologists from the Alabama Historical Commission are working hard to uncover Cahawba's historic past and to create a full time interpretive park. Admission: Adults $2, Children $1

Such a cool place to explore for $2
While it's a little off the beaten path, its very neat. Only $2 for adults to visit. It's an old city you can explore and see some of the buildings standing. They have cruiser bicycles you can use for free (need to leave an ID) and that made traveling around so awesome. Perfect for families and would be a good way to spend a few hours.

Old Cahawba
Old Cahawba is the first "permanent" capital of Alabama and is located about 8 miles from Selma. The interior of the Episcopal church is still under construction. Be certain and walk to the remains of the Crocheron house and the ruins of the CSA Castle Morgan prison.
