Perfect Way to Cool Off & Explore

My 14 year old daughter and I were visiting BAMA and took a couple hours on a Sunday to see this lake. There was a man renting paddle boards for $15 an hour and we had a blast exploring the lake via paddle board. There were cliffs to see, islands, wild life. I would definitely do this again. It was the perfect thing to do in the hot summer heat.

    Well Kept Secret!
This is the little sister lake to nearby Lake Nichol. There’s a well kept dirt road and a pretty steep hill to access the lake but our 2 wheel drive vehicles had no problem on a dry day. There’s no motor traffic on the lake and we were the only ones there on a weekday. Pristine shores with very little litter. It was an easy paddle in our kayaks and we were able to circumnavigate the lake in a few hours. We found an eagle nest and saw the pair of eagles in the air. Definitely plan another visit in the fall when the leaves change.

    Beautiful hike on the cliffs
This review is for the cliff hike at the boat landing, not the spillway at the dam. Along with the M Bend Park on Hurricane Creek, one of the best hikes in T-Town. Lots of UA students have discovered this gem. A well-traveled but rugged trail leads you to numerous rock shelves overlooking the lake. Hike to the end to a flat rocky point. Out and back is about a half hour, but take time to take in the views. You’ll want close-toes shoes or hiking boots - it’s a rough and rocky trail. If you look closely near trail’s end you can find additional secret trails that lead farther into the woods. Take your GPS app on these to avoid getting turned around. NOTE: This area is owned by the City Water Department, not PARA. It’s not truly a park and has no services - PLEASE help keep this beautiful place clean and free of litter!
