"Give us a second chance"

My name is Fred Holton and I am the PGA Head Professional at Auburn Links. I would challenge all the bad reviews to try the course now. Yes we had our issues early on due to a severe winter but our greens have recovered nicely. I will never make excuses for the facility that I work at and our staff will always treat you with great customer service. I believe for the rates we charge our course compares with any in the area. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion so I decided to post mine.

    VERY GOOD, GOOD AND AWFUL
The people at Auburn Links are very good. They are friendly and helpful. I found them to be very pleasant to be around. The Fairways on the course were good. They were evenly cut and in good shape. You could expect a decent lie anywhere in the fairway. ON THE OTHER HAND, the bunkers were more mud than sand and the greens were like putting on a sea of pebbles. Not that there were actually pebbles, but there were only patches of grass on uneven black, hard dirt. It was extremely frustrating. On one hole, as my putt reached the edge of the cup, in the center, it jumped directly to the left and went around the hole. There was a tuft of dirt and grass standing up slightly at the edge of the hole. To be fair, the weather has not been good in the area recently. The temperatures have been pushing 100 and there has been very little rain, though it did rain while we were playing. The course is challenging with relatively narrow fairways and thick roughs. If they can get some grass to grow on the greens, it would certainly help the course and the rating of this review. If I play there again, it will only be because of the people. I wish them well and hope the improvements can be made. I live about 50 miles from there and would need to hear rumors of improvements before I made the drive. I suggest, if you are considering traveling any distance to play golf there, that you call to check on the condition of the greens. My impression is that the people would give you an honest answer.

Not worth walking across the street
It's sad, really. I literally live across the street from this place, but I would rather get in my car and drive several miles to play another course. It's really a shame that I can see the putting green out my front door, but I don't want to play the course because they just take such poor care of it. Now I've played some lousy courses before and didn't complain because the green fees were dirt cheap. If Auburn Links went that direction, I might reconsider. But it's certainly not worth 40 bucks for 18 holes (their "twilight" rate is a laughable $30). I would play here if I could pay $8-10 to walk 9 holes, because it's worth about that much. Otherwise, aside from simply beating balls at the driving range, it's not worth walking across the street.
