A small museum with great significance
Top tip: This museum is best with a tour guide. The guide who took us around had a very personal story about the troubled times in Ethiopia. It made our visit more meaningful. There are indeed many museums that show splendour and you often leave in awe of the richness of a culture. At Red Terror, what we had was a conversation, an insightful and deep recollection of a past that shaped the new aspirations of Ethiopia. Remembering the martyrs through this museum has been excellent, told by someone who was a victim of that bloody past. As he took us from one exhibition to the next, he recalled his childhood, losing family and friends, the pains of that journey. It was very personal and intimate. Not many museum visits are similar to this one. What touched me was when he said 'I will be grateful to them until my last breath' as he remembered the martyrdom of those that gave him the freedom he now enjoys.

Wonderful Museum but currently closed
I am living in Addis and have visited twice this year. A sobering part of history and well worth a visit. However, since some disorder after Ramadan in mid 2022 the museum has be significantly damaged, has not been repaired and as of yesterday (Mid July 2022) is still closed.
