We were visiting the Gorge with our two granddaughters, 8 and 10, and the family rafting trip was a lot of fun for all of us, especially for the children who have not been rafting before. The organizer, bus driver, the rafting guides were all very professional and safety conscious. Even though we did not stay at the AOG compound, our rafting trip included the use of the pool and other amenities after we returned to the compound. Very nice. See more..

    - Outstanding company, Outstanding guide!
    Water Sports
New & Gauley River Adventures image
Rode New River with "New & Gauley River Adventures" on 8/16/22. Jason was our guide and he was outstanding! He did a great job showing us the ropes and allowing us to have a great time even on a poor weather (rainy) day. The lunch provided was outstanding. It was the best potato salad my wife and I ever ate. The rest of the food for having to be carried in a cooler down the river was more than satisfying. Jason did a great job making people in the group feel comfortable and in detailed explained all the safety precautions. I will definitely be using this company for our next adventure there and I will be requesting Jason. I may have not been paying attention to instructions enough but my only improvement would be better awareness for where the photographer will be stationed so I could have shifted my face towards the photographer more. - Exciting and safety conscious
Friday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM River Rafting & Tubing
    West Virginia Adventures image
This was our third trip with West Virginia Adventures and we will be back again! First time was July 2021, party of four (Mom and Dad in our 50's and two boys 16, 17). Our guide was awesome. He made us feel safe but didn't skimp on the fun. We returned later that same month with 6. Our kids loved it so much their friends had to come. Our most recent trip was so much fun. Our guide "Crock" was great! He was entertaining and skilled. He could hit the water just right to get us great splashes and keep us safe. This is a smaller company and their personal attention shows. Highly recommend. Regardless of age or skill level they will give you a safe, exciting, memorable and must repeat experience. If you are a single boat there is a support guide with you in another boat (kayak). Safety is foremost. See more..

What a beautiful and fun experience! We swung over from the Deep Creek Lake area (fairly short and scenic drive) and all agreed we are adding it to our annual rotation. Booking was easy online, the staff friendly and happy to accommodate our large group. Totally spring for a dry bag for your phone -gotta take those gorgeous pictures - from the gift shop as it is way less expensive than a new phone. Can't wait to be back and are thinking about a white water rafting adventure later in the summer. See more..
  12. 5.0 Cantrell Ultimate Rafting - Day Tours (402 reviews)
    - White Water Rafting On The Lower New River
    River Rafting & Tubing
Cantrell Ultimate Rafting - Day Tours image
This was one of the BEST things I have ever done/experienced!!! We had the best experience from beginning to end with it being our first time white water rafting. Everyone was so, so nice and good to us. We went on a half day trip on the lower New River. Our guide (Deon), who we LOVED and would recommend to everyone, fit perfectly with our wild and crazy group of friends and made us feel safe the whole way through. P.S. Thank you for putting up with us Deon, haha. He and his trainee (Brody) showed us everything we needed to know to raft, everything along the river history wise and rapid wise, stopped to let us get out and go down the rapids not in the boat, and also jump off a 15 foot cliff into the river too! We are from PA and this was our second trip to Fayetteville. Thank you so much Cantrell’s! We had the best day and will most definitely be back to Fayetteville and Cantrell’s to raft again!!! 13. 5.0 NROCKS Outdoor Adventures (392 reviews)
    - Nice family experience
Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Adrenaline & Extreme Tours • Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks • Climbing Tours
    NROCKS Outdoor Adventures image
Our family (us and two boys ages 10 & 7), stayed two nights in the lodge and tried the top rope climbing. It was the first time our kids had ever climbed on a rope outside and, least to say, they were terrified. Bronson was very patient and encouraging and helped get our 10 year old to “touch the chains”. The area was great and I’m sure we would have done more hiking and exploring if we had time. Nearby we recommend the Gateway restaurant. It’s the only restaurant within short driving distance, but it did not disappoint for those who enjoy country cooking and delicious pie. The room was clean and tidy. The only complaint was the drain was very slow in the shower, but not a big deal. Next time we visit we might do an adult trip to do the Via Ferrata and check out the cabins. See more..
  14. 5.0 Bridge Walk- New River Gorge Bridge (323 reviews)
    - Worth the price of admission!
    Walking Tours
Bridge Walk- New River Gorge Bridge image
Our guide, Doug, was fantastic. You’ll get a quick safety lesson, suited up in a harness and safety tether before shuttling over to the short trail to the entrance. Doug was great - learned everyone’s names right off the bat, held personal conversations with everyone, and was very knowledgeable! We were even able to stop and sit to watch rafters and kayakers coming down river. He took photos for us and air dropped them (or could email/text them as well) for no extra fee. This is truly a unique experience, worth the price of admission. See more..
  15. 5.0 The Greenbrier Falconry (274 reviews)
    - A great experience!
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    The Greenbrier Falconry image
While everything about The Greenbrier is excellent, our favorite experience was the falconry class. My wife had some hesitancy when we signed up and said she would just watch. But Cody’s explanation of the birds and the enthusiasm of our little group of ten persuaded her to quickly follow me in holding the falcon and petting the owl. And then when we went out into the field with the hawk, the experience got even better. It was a great experience that we will do again on our next visit. See more..
  16. 5.0 Grandview State Park (243 reviews)
    - It' now a must -see part of New River Gorge National Park
Friday: 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM State Parks • Hiking Trails
    Grandview State Park image
This area is now part of the New River Gorge National Park. It has the cutest little visitor center and there are nice, real bathrooms here (translation - not port-a-potties!). The main and north overlooks are both short, accessible trails to view the gorge. Both the main and north overlooks offer very similar views of the river and gorge, but we felt the main overlook provided more view of the right side of the river curve so if you have to choose only one, do that one. Would recommend viewing at a few different times of the day if you are able. There is a nice Rim Trail you can hike, but no need to hike it if you just want views, because it passes right by all 3 views that are also accessible from parking lots. Plus, it's a one way hiking trail that ends at Turkey Spur, so round trip it's just over 3 miles. But hey, if you have the time and energy, go for it! See more..

    Tamarack Marketplace image
Tamarack Marketplace is an iconic road stop for all who travel I-77 through Beckley, West Virginia. The peaked red roof building is eye-catching to say the least, but it’s the mission, the artistry, and Appalachian pride that has made Tamarack Marketplace what it is today. The products of more than 2,800 artists and artisans from all fifty-five counties are sold at the regional showcase that make it evident there is no lack of talent in the Mountain State. However, it is more than a shopping experience and art gallery. It’s a local social hub featuring artist demonstrations, a summer concert series every weekend in the courtyard, and Appalachian cuisine at its restaurant with indoor, to-go, and al fresco dining options. Tamarack Marketplace located at Exit 45 on I-77/64. See more..

ACE Adventure Resort - Day Tours image
My friends and I did the Fall Gauley River Rafting Marathon on Friday and it was awesome! Highly recommend doing the Gauley with ACE. Thanks to our Guide Chris Howe and the entire ACE crew, everything ran smoothly from beginning to end. You could really tell that everyone who worked there loved the sport and that made it so much more fun and enjoyable. Rafting the river gives you a true adrenaline rush and it put a smile on my face the entire day – you’ll definitely be challenged physically and mentally so I recommend the Lower Gauley for someone looking for an “easier” day. My friends and I all agreed that what really made our trip phenomenal was our Guide Chris, I can’t say enough good things about him. He was very professional, light-hearted, and his enthusiasm was contagious. With all his cues and guidance, we felt prepared and ready the entire trip – Kudos to Chris for truly making it an amazing experience!! We’ll definitely be requesting him the next time we go rafting with ACE. See more..

    River Expeditions Whitewater Rafting image
A group of five friends from Fort Wayne, IN recently rafted the Upper Gauley River and had a wonderful experience. Beautiful scenery, magnificent rapids, and overall a great experience. If you are considering this company I highly recommend our guide, Flynn, as she was truly exceptional. This was my fourth time hitting whitewater and unlike some guides I’ve had in the past she could read the rapids like a book. Friendly with a great balance of professionalism and humor, she was safe for the class V’s yet willing to get make things more entertaining for the safer rapids without any mishaps. If you are lodging at River Expeditions I don’t recommend the rustic cabins. I would spend a little bit more money and get something more rooms with better accommodations. All the staff we interacted with were friends and professional at all times as well. Overall great experience! See more..
